Vibration isolation for the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz

Walraven has been involved in the new Academy of Music campus in Bydgoszcz, Poland, since the design phase began in 2017. Working closely with installers and the main contractor, Walraven provided specialist expertise in vibration isolation to help create an environment where music can be enjoyed without disruption from building services.

Minimising noise and vibrations

The new campus consists of seven floors above ground and two underground levels, with a high density of technical installations throughout the building.

For a music academy, controlling vibration and noise is particularly important. Therefore, any vibration transferred from building services could affect practice rooms, teaching spaces and concert performances, impacting the experience of students, musicians, staff and visitors.

The project presented several challenges:

Strict acoustic requirements – Vibrations and installation noise needed to be minimised throughout the facility.
Dense underground installations – Limited space made the routing and suspension of services more complex.
Specialised room requirements – Installation systems had to comply with both building specifications and acoustic performance criteria.
Combined suspension systems – Dual-function channels requiring both fire protection and vibration isolation increased installation complexity and fastening density.

Advanced vibration isolation solution

To meet the project’s demanding acoustic requirements, Walraven supplied a comprehensive vibration isolation solution based on the Walraven VibraTek® range.

Walraven implemented Walraven VibraTek® vibration isolators throughout the facility to reduce vibration transmission from mechanical and sanitary installations. The team integrated the system into sanitary pipework, fans and fire protection installations, creating a quieter and more comfortable environment across the campus.

The solution incorporated:

Walraven VibraTek® vibration isolators for effective vibration and noise control.
Walraven RapidStrut® channel systems to support and secure pipe installations.
Walraven WDI1 mechanical anchors for reliable ceiling fixings.
Modular system integration allowing multiple solutions to be combined to meet the project’s specific requirements.

Notably, the scale of the project is particularly noteworthy, representing the largest number of Walraven VibraTek® isolators ever installed on a single project.

From the earliest design stages, Walraven worked closely with installers and project stakeholders. This collaboration supported the delivery of a technically demanding installation.

The versatility and modularity of the Walraven system enabled the project team to address acoustic, structural and fire safety requirements. As a result, the team met multiple project objectives with a single integrated solution.
